It doesn’t matter how old you are to start loving sports and exercise in general. Being healthy and fit is the key to a longer and much happier life.
So, if you are 40, 50, even 60 or 70, it doesn’t matter. There are many outdoor or indoor activities that we all can do to enhance our well being.
1. Aerobics
2. Brisk walking
3. Cycling
4. Swimming
5. Jogging
6. Treadmill
7. Indoor bike
8. Yoga
9. Dancing
10. Strength trainning
30 to 45 minutes a day of aerobic exercise or activity, five days a week, is the minimum time recommended to get physical benefits, but if you can increase the time, the frequency and intensity, it would be much better for you because it can reduce the risk of chronic disease related to inactivity.
Dr. Miriam E. Nelson, director of the John Hancock Center for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Tufts University in Boston and lead author of the new recommendations, published in The Journal on Active Aging the following:
“…with every increasing decade of age, people become less and less active, but the evidence shows that with every increasing decade, exercise becomes more important in terms of quality of life, independence and having a full life. So as of now, Americans are not on the right path.”
So, come on and live the life with passion and energy. Do not start dying while breathing.
If you haven’t exercised ever in your life and you are over 45 or 50 years old, you might want to pay a visit to your family doctor, have an EKG done, your blood drawn for a general check up, and ask your doctor if it’s OK for you to start an exercise program. If everything is alright then congratulations and begin your new healthy life.
